LWV Leadership

The League of Women Voters Austin Area (LWV-AA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots civic organization that encourages informed and active participation in government. We envision a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate.


We’re looking for leaders

LWV-AA is looking for committed leaders who have experience in the community, business, government, philanthropy, or nonprofits and a passion for our work to serve on the 2023-2024 Board.  Apply today using this application form to express your interest in Board membership. Applications are due March 31, 2023 for Board service beginning June 2023.  

 

Board Member Responsibilities:

  • Active Participation: Regularly attend and actively participate in Board meetings and calls. The Board meets in the evening on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, . Between meetings, each Board member assumes responsibilities for their area and may also chair committee meetings dependent on their role. Board members must be current members of LWV-AA.

  • Governance and Due Diligence: Be well-versed in the organization's mission, programs, goals, finances, policies, by-laws, challenges, and possibilities. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state and federal laws and monitor the Board's own effectiveness, structure and roles.

  • Planning and Leadership: Ensure effective organizational planning in order to advance the mission and to carry out the program as adopted by the national convention, the state convention, and the annual meeting.

  • External Relations: Serve as an effective ambassador for the organization among diverse communities and encourage the growth of the LWV-AA member base.  

 

Specific positions we are recruiting for:

  • Vice President Community & Policy - Coordinates the Leagues educational outreach to members and the public

  • Director Advocacy - Organizes educational events and candidate forums

  • Director Development - Produces the Making Democracy Work Dinner and other fundraising events

  • Director Voter Guide Editor - Coordinates production of Austin Area Voter Guides

  • Director Voter Registration - Coordinates voter registration drives in Austin and Travis County
