About League Membership

Join the League, and you'll play an active role in our democracy while contributing to your community. As a member, you can help determine the direction of LWV of the Austin Area (LWVAA) and help us achieve our important work. Your membership alone will help us be a stronger voice for citizens and a force for change.

Any person 16 years of age or older who subscribes to the purposes and policies of the League is eligible for membership.
Membership is for one year, renewable annually.
When you join LWVAA, you automatically become a member of LWV Texas and LWV of the United States.
LWV Austin Area is a 501(c)3 organization. Membership fees and donations to LWVAA are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Membership Dues

LWV offers a "pay what you want" dues model that allows anyone to join for as little as $20. Your dues will be split between LWVUS, LWVTX, and LWVAA to ensure sustained services and support throughout the organization.

Join / Renew Online

When you join online, your membership dues will show up on your bank or credit card statement as three transactions -- one each to LWV Austin Area, LWV of Texas, and LWV of the United States. You’ll be a member of all three!

Prefer to Pay by Check?

If you prefer to join or renew by check, please complete the form at the link below and return it with your check made out to LWVUS. Direct donations to LWVAA must be made separately, with a check made out to LWVAA.

Membership Form

Note: Dues cannot be paid from Donor-Advised Funds or from other accounts that must go entirely to 501(c)(3)s. You can continue to make donations to LWVAA from these accounts.

For 100% of your gift to go to LWVAA, do not choose higher dues. Instead, add a separate donation to LWVAA when you join or renew -- 100% of your donation will be put to work right here in the Austin area.

LWVAA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and tax-exempt organization. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable under the law.

Tax Deductibility

League membership dues and direct donations to LWVAA have different tax deductibility.

Your membership dues are split by three Leagues with different tax designations. The portion of your dues that go to LWV Austin Area and LWV Texas, both 501(c)(3) organizations, are tax deductible. The portion of your dues that go to LWV of the United States, a 501(c)(4) organization, is not tax deductible.

Donations made directly to LWV Austin Area are fully tax deductible as charitable contributions and support our important voter education and advocacy work in the Austin area.

Whether you can deduct a charitable contribution depends on your personal tax situation. Consult a tax expert or the IRS.
