How do I become a VDR?
How do I become a VDR?

If you live in Travis, Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Lee, or Williamson Counties:

  1. Become a VDR in Travis County - Watch the Travis County video training and take the test.
  2. Request reciprocal certification from another county in Texas using your current VDR certificate issued to you from Travis county.   This process may vary slightly by county, but generally involves:
  • Providing a copy of a current (i.e. non-expired) VDR certificate issued to you by another county in Texas to the office of the Voter Registrar or Elections Administrator of the county you wish to get reciprocal certification from
  • Completing some paperwork with the Voter Registrar or Elections Administrator of the county to be appointed as a VDR in their county

Tip: call ahead before visiting a county office for reciprocal certification. While it may not be required,  we have found it is helpful to ensure staff is available to assist you with the reciprocal certification process.

Note:  A VDR’s certification of appointment is valid immediately upon training and expires on December 31, of even-numbered years. VDRs are appointed county by county and must attend a one hour training, per cycle, in order to maintain certification.

Any VDR certification(s) received in 2023 or 2024 are valid until they expire on December 31, 2024.

More information on the qualifications to be a VDR can be found here: Be a Travis County VDR
