Opportunities for League Volunteers


Thank you for your interest in volunteering with LWVAA!
 
We encourage you to visit our Events calendar regularly to find out about League and community events; to spread the word about upcoming events; and to take part in those activities by attending (and bringing a friend!) or volunteering.

Spanish speakers/writers are in needed in every category!

Communications & Technology (Grace Chimene, communications@lwvaustin.org):

  • Social media support
  • Graphics
  • Photography & videography
  • Website support
  • Newsletter
  • Technology support: Technology tools – e.g., Zoom, GSuite, Canva, Articulate 360, etc. – as well as AV equipment and support for hybrid meetings

Voters Service (Valerie DeBill, voterservices@lwvaustin.org):

  • Voters Guide (Jaci Collins, jcollins@lwvaustin.org): Questions Committee, proofreading, candidate outreach
  • Voter registration (Claudia Torres-Yanez, cyanez@lwvaustin.org): VDR certificate required
  • First Vote! (Susana Carranza,firstvote@lwvaustin.org): High school voter education and registration – training provided
  • Get Out the Vote for the Primary Election (Julie Lass, lassjulie@gmail.com): address postcards to voters,  help with GOTV block parties.
  • Candidate forums (Jessica Foreman, jforeman@lwvaustin.org): Research topics; solicit forum questions from LWVAA members and the public; and help finalize candidate questions. We will also need volunteers to join the Candidate Forum volunteer group to work at each event as timers, greeters, etc.

Unite and Rise 8.5 (Cynthia Griffin, cgriffin@lwvaustin.org):

  • Support the US League's initiative to build voter power through strong, trusted community partnerships.
  • Help LWVAA establish, foster, and maintain partnerships with a diverse roster of civic organizations across Travis County to engage and mobilize voters – AAUW, Planned Parenthood, YWCA, National Committee of Jewish Women, Public Citizen, Hands Off Central Texas, The Links, HABLA, LULAC, Children's Defense Fund, Austin Voices, and others.

Speakers Bureau (Leah Nyfeler, leahruns100@gmail.com; Barbara Martin, gogetemgirl99@gmail.com, Cynthia Griffin cgriffin@lwvaustin.org):

The Speakers Bureau will build and maintain a repository of audience-ready presentations and train volunteers to speak to outside groups, helping to raise public awareness of the League and encouraging participation in our democracy. 

In addition to speakers, we need volunteers to

  • Mentor and train speakers
  • Review and update current presentations and create new ones
  • Create graphics and slide decks
  • Perform fact-checking and research
  • Schedule speakers and presentations
