Three things your church, organization, or business can do to help get out the vote
  1. Share voter education material from LWVAA. We have flyers, voter info bookmarks, VOTE411 how-tos, voting plan checklists -- we've got you covered! Check our calendar for drop-in hours or email Joyce Jackson to arrange a pick-up time.
  2. Organize a "get out the vote" postcard party. LWVAA supplies pre-printed postcards, address lists, and postage; you supply the volunteers! Email Joyce Jackson to learn more.
  3. Request an LWVAA Let's Vote table at an event or gathering or invite an LWVAA speaker to your organization's next meeting. We can provide a short version of "What's on the Ballot"  in as little as 15 minutes.

🗳️ Train to safeguard the November elections
As Texans head to the polls this election season, voters may encounter confusing voting rules, misinformation, and other barriers to participation. Nonpartisan Election Protection volunteers are trained to help voters navigate issues at the polls and connect them with accurate information and support.

The League of Women Voters is a proud member of the Election Protection coalition and encourages members to sign up for poll monitor training led by Common Cause. All poll monitor volunteers must attend one training session.

Online training is offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays through the end of October. Register for online training here.

In-person training will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at the Asian American Resource Center. In-person training will give volunteers a chance to ask questions face-to-face, meet others who will be doing this work alongside them, connect with the Election Protection community, and feel more comfortable and prepared before heading out to the polls. There will be food, drinks, stickers, and a raffle for Totes Vote tote bags!. Register for in-person training here.

Political parties change over time
On September 26, LWVAA and Braver Angels Central Texas hosted a screening of the film The Life of the Party featuring three very different Republican women, each of whom have held public office: Sarah Davis and Geanie Morrison served in the Texas House, and Mayra Flores served in Congress. The event was well attended – more than 60 people participated in small group discussions following the film.

Oppose Unconstitutional Census Rule Change
On September 10, the Census Bureau announced sweeping changes to how we count people on the census. The proposed rule would severely distort population counts, create inaccurate representations of communities during apportionment and redistricting, and disrupt how state and local governments plan essential public services.

It was an honor
I had the honor of registering this young man for his first time on Friday. I met him and his mom at Whataburger in Round Rock and I took his registration directly to Georgetown. It should be easy to register to vote, but he hit some roadblocks. If you know me, you know that I was determined to make this happen for him! We got it done despite the Lone Star State!

Update: His mom sent me messages announcing that he was officially registered with a proud screenshot showing that his registration was active and reports that he is stoked!
