Empowering Voters

Travis County Primary Voters
Click the image above to view a map of the Travis County turnout in the primary election.
The 2026 primary saw record-breaking turnout: with more than 4.3 million Texans casting ballots, it was the highest midterm primary turnout in state history. Here in Travis County, early voting reached its highest level for a primary election in nearly two decades. Voter turnout was 29.76% with 273,854 votes cast out of the 920,114 registered voters in Travis County. Find Travis County's primary election results at VoteTravis.gov. Learn which candidates won and which candidates will be in the runoff election on May 26.
🫶 Join us in thanking all the candidates who ran in the primary election and to all of the election workers, poll monitors, and others who helped run the 2026 Texas primary election!

The League of Women Voters helps ensure that voters show up informed and confident through the Voters Guide, VOTE411, voter registration, and nonpartisan education.

If you want to see this momentum continue, please donate to help keep voters informed and engaged.

Volunteer With LWVAA

Central Texas Learning Festival
Urgent: Last chance to volunteer for Democracy Rocks!

LWVAA is hosting our Democracy Rocks civics treasure hunt as part of the Central Texas Learning Festival. We still need volunteers to support this event on Saturday, March 14, from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. at Twin Oaks Library. Volunteers set up civics stations where kids use a treasure map to discover history and civics messages. When they discover all the messages, they get to select a prize from our treasure chest.

Volunteers help set up or clean up, hand out maps to treasure hunters, or help hunters navigate the course. This opportunity is open to anyone age 16 and up. Contact Joyce Jackson at jjackson@lwvaustin.org if you need more information or if you need help signing up for a volunteer shift. Without volunteers, we will have to cancel this event.

Thank you for making TRIVIACRACY a success!

Thank you to everyone who made TRIVIACRACY such a success! The live music, great food, and lively civics trivia were a great way to spend an afternoon with people who care deeply about our democracy -- and on International Women’s Day, no less! We're especially grateful to the sponsors recognized below, the Development Committee, and the many volunteers and attendees who helped make the day a success. Enjoy our video and the photo album of the day's events!

Since the rules of trivia prevented many of you from accessing your phone, you may not have had a “donation opportunity” via text or QR code. It’s not too late! Click the link below to donate directly to the TRIVIACRACY Fund. Every dollar donated helps expand the reach of our nonpartisan Voters Guide and VOTE411and supports all of our efforts to ensure that more Austin Area voters have access to trusted election information.

Advocacy

“The Constitution clearly assigns the power to declare war to Congress, an authority that was intentionally ignored. When a president goes around Congress to initiate military action, it is not a sign of strength. It is executive overreach and dangerous to Americans, both domestically and abroad."

Urgent Action: Oppose the SAVE Act bills in the Senate!

Congress continues to introduce bills that would require voters to present documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) to register and/or vote, including the SAVE America Act, the Safeguard Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), and the Make Elections Great Again Act (MEGA).

The SAVE Act would create one more barrier to the voting process, as many eligible voters do not have easy access to the necessary documents.

Tell your senators to reject the SAVE Act suite of bills!

Thanks to all who attended February's webinar, From Poll Taxes to Maps - A History of Voter Suppression in Texas.

Every election cycle, we hear the term “voter suppression.” But what does that actually mean in Texas? As we enter another election cycle, understanding this history matters more than ever. Watch this presentation for a decade-by-decade look at how Texas voting laws, from poll taxes to modern maps and ID requirements, were challenged in court and sometimes struck down as unlawful. Presented by VP of Advocacy & Education Joanne Richards, this 30-minute presentation connects the dots between past and present to provide a fuller picture of voting rights in today's Texas.
