⚖️ Daily democracy action
How would you feel if after years, you finally became a naturalized citizen and registered to vote, only to go to the polls and learn that your name has been removed from the list of registered voters?
Help the League of Women Voters and our legal counsel speak with voters who received letters from election officials wrongly questioning their citizenship status, as part of a court case to protect voting rights. If you have received a letter like this, or know someone who has, please email savecase@fairelectionscenter.org. All discussions will be kept strictly confidential.
🗣️ We need to hear from you!

| | LWVAA Advocacy Committee members interview Austin City Council member Mike Siegel. | LWVAA visits with local elected officials
The Advocacy Committee of the Austin Area League visits local elected officials to share information about the League and its positions as well as to learn more about what our local region's elected officials see as key issues and priorities. This interview with Austin City Council Member Mike Siegel (District 7) is the first in a series of interviews with local elected officials during 2025 and 2026.
Strengthening local government in a time of crisis
When asked about the most important issues facing Austin, Siegel noted that “we are in a time of crisis in our democracy” with the federal government withholding tens of millions of dollars and the state government taking hundreds of millions of dollars in recapture and tying our hands with revenue caps. He stated, “I hope that right now Austin can be an example of a strong local government, modeling our values of having an equitable, just and sustainable government. I seek to build trust in local government.”

🗣️ Speak Up Austin
The 2026 General Obligation (GO) Bond is an opportunity to invest in the future of our city, but it’s important that it reflects the priorities and needs of our community. That’s why the City of Austin is asking for your input. Whether you attend a community meeting, submit a program or project idea, or engage with the City online, your feedback will help shape the projects that move forward. Tell your family and friends to participate too!
This is your city, your tax dollars, and your opportunity to make a difference.

Through the Unite and Rise 8.5 initiative, the League is working to mobilize 8.5 million voting-aged people to engage in, defend, and strengthen our democracy ahead of the November 2026 election. The number 8.5 million reflects the 3.5% of the population that has been shown to power a movement and effect change.
Fun Fact! Errin Haines, Managing Editor of the Austin-based 19th News, is on the national advisory committee for Unite and Rise 8.5.
Watch: Unite and Rise 8.5: Partnership, Faith, and Defending Democracy - League CEO Celina Stewart sits down with Sheila Katz, former CEO of the National Council for Jewish Women, and Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley, President and CEO of the National Council for Negro Women. They discuss the power of women's leadership, the relationship between faith and activism, and the challenges facing movement leaders in the current political climate.
Be a liaison to nonpartisan organizations
LWVAA Community Engagement Chair Krista Weatherford is identifying five area civic organizations representing a broad cross-section of Travis County for the League to partner with. Krista Weatherford if you are interested in being a liaison to nonpartisan organizations.

🌟 Live music, local food, trivia battles, and real impact. That’s TRIVIACRACY 2026, and sponsors make it possible. Sponsorships help us keep ticket prices low for the public, cover event costs, and fund the League’s year-round voter education work like VOTE411 and our nonpartisan Voters Guide.
Your sponsorship gives you visibility with thousands of Austin residents, recognition at the event, and the chance to align your brand with trusted, nonpartisan civic engagement. Every level fuels more access, more education, and more empowered voters.
If your company believes in community, equity, and making democracy easier for everyone, we’d love to partner with you. 💛
