Email scam alert
A number of members have reported receiving an email, purportedly from LWVAA co-president Joyce Jackson, saying something like, "I hope you are doing well? Do you have some free time today? I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know." The sender uses Joyce's name, but not her League email address. Do not reply to this email -- it is a setup for a gift card scam.
No League leader will ever contact you by email or text to ask you to make purchases in aid of a project.
If you receive an email from someone claiming to be from Joyce Jackson -- or from any League member -- that you suspect may be fraudulent:
- Do not reply to the suspect message.
- Pay close attention to the sender’s email address (if you're on a mobile device, tap the sender’s name to reveal the actual email address). If the sender’s address ends in @gmail.com, @outlook.com, or anything other than @lwvaustin.org, the request is most likely a scam.
- Do not click any links or call any phone numbers listed in the email.
- Contact the person who is named as the sender at a trusted email address or using a trusted phone number. You can send email to LWVAA board members using the links on the "Board Members" page or through the "Contact Us" page on our website.
- Delete the email. Before deleting, you can report this and other email scams at https://www.reportfraud.ftc.gov/.
