Welcome to LWVAA's Weekly VOTER
The Weekly VOTER is here to make sure you stay in the know about opportunities for you to empower voters and defend democracy in your community. | | The League of Women Voters on mid-cycle redistricting
Early on the morning of August 23, the Texas Senate approved a new congressional map, sending it to the Governor's desk for signature. The US and Texas Leagues have been speaking out:
- Read the LWVUS statement on mid-cycle redistricting.
- Read the LWVUS blog post entitled "Redistricting is at a Crossroads: How Voters Can Achieve Fair Representation."
- Read the full statement from LWVUS and LWV Texas condemning these harmful gerrymandered maps.
- LWVUS and LWV California issued this statement about the proposed redistricting in California.
This is a controversial subject and not all League members will agree with all of these statements. Remember that on your own time, you're free to agree or disagree with what the League is doing or saying about redistricting. However, if the subject comes up when you're acting in your League capacity and you do not personally agree, refer people to the League’s official statement on mid-cycle redistricting. | | Claudia Torres-Yanez, Director of Voter Registration & Turnout, registers a new voter at Del Valle Day.
