Unite and Rise 8.5 (Cynthia Griffin, cgriffin@lwvaustin.org):

  • Support the US League's initiative to build voter power through strong, trusted community partnerships.
  • Help LWVAA establish, foster, and maintain partnerships with a diverse roster of civic organizations across Travis County to engage and mobilize voters – AAUW, Planned Parenthood, YWCA, National Committee of Jewish Women, Public Citizen, Hands Off Central Texas, The Links, HABLA, LULAC, Children's Defense Fund, Austin Voices, and others.

Speakers Bureau (Joyce Jackson jjackson@lwvaustin.org and Cynthia Griffin cgriffin@lwvaustin.org):

The Speakers Bureau will build and maintain a repository of audience-ready presentations and train volunteers to speak to outside groups, helping to raise public awareness of the League and encouraging participation in our democracy. 

In addition to speakers, we need volunteers to

  • Mentor and train speakers
  • Review and update current presentations and create new ones
  • Create graphics and slide decks
  • Perform fact-checking and research
  • Schedule speakers and presentations

Zurawski v Texas screening in partnership with AAUW Austin: Private screening of documentary and talk-back panel. The film tells the story of Texan plaintiff Amanda Zurawski and the lawsuit she filed after Texas denied her abortion care when her health was threatened during a problem pregnancy. From Maps to Mail Ballots: A History of Voter Suppression in Texas: Voter suppression is “alive and well” in Texas. We constantly need to be vigilant to fight it. In this webinar, the LWVAA Advocacy & Education Committee will present the history of voter suppression in Texas. Watch for event information and registration on lwvaustin.org.

Apr – Election Day *

GOTV block parties: LWVAA is partnering with the Travis County Clerk's office to hold "block parties" in all 10 Austin City Council districts. The county will supply voting machines and we’ll hold a mock election to give first-time and never-time voters a chance to test-drive the machine. Plans include offering refreshments and kids’ activities and holding a mock candidate forum.

LWVAA Annual Meeting: Annual business meeting and elections.

November 3 (Election Day) *
