The Freedom to Vote Starts With Registering to Vote

September 10, 2024: As a nonpartisan nonprofit, the League of Women Voters Austin Area (LWVAA) empowers voters and defends democracy. “We are appalled that the Attorney General’s office is attempting to curtail the county’s voter registration outreach efforts in the last weeks before the deadline. This is a blatant attempt to suppress the vote in Travis County,” said Jessica Foreman, president of LWVAA.
Our mission is clear: we encourage every Travis County voter to vote in every election to make their voices heard. Your voice matters. Our voter registration efforts include reaching out to new voters at schools, businesses, and events across Travis County. We partner with other nonpartisan organizations and county election offices. Our goal is to reach as many voters as possible.
We aim to empower all voters who live and work in Travis County. Individuals who care about their community deserve a say in government decisions. Yet, despite our efforts and dedication, we know we can’t reach all potential voters before the October 7th voter registration deadline.
You can help. Share with your friends, family, and community that to cast a ballot in Texas, you must register to vote 30 days before the election, or by October 7th for the November 5th General Election. This deadline is not just important; it's crucial here in Texas, and we urge all new voters to fill out and provide a signature on a voter registration form. Those already registered can update their name or address online at VoteTexas.gov. Don't miss this opportunity to make your voice heard.
The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan; we never support or oppose political parties or candidates, but we take a stand on issues important to our community.
